Catholic Church Parishes Feed the Hungry this Thanksgiving and Shelter the Homeless this Advent

This holiday season, Holy Cross Catholic Church and St. Mary Mother of the Church Catholic Church led their communities to give with unique zeal and dedication to our work.

Pairing their spiritual devotions with the Corporal Works of Mercy, these parishes helped “Feed the Hungry” this Thanksgiving by collecting non-perishable food items for St. Joseph Diner and FoodNet. This Advent, they helped “Shelter the Homeless” by setting up giving trees to encourage “adopting-a-bed” in one of our emergency shelters for a day, week, or an entire month.

We are so grateful for partner parishes who walk with us so intentionally!

At Christmas, we meditate on God taking on flesh for our salvation in the context of a family that was without shelter at the time of His birth. In this real way as we love our brothers and sisters whom we can see living in our community without the safety and warmth of shelter, we can love the baby Jesus whom we cannot see. (Check out 1 John 4:20 as a great Christmas meditation.)

Thank you to Holy Cross Catholic Church and St. Mary Mother of the Church Catholic Church for loving Jesus through loving your neighbor in need. Check out how your Church parish or faith community can join us as well.
