Hurricane Ida Preparation & Response

Catholic Charities of Acadiana is currently preparing for the effects of Hurricane Ida, working in coordination with our local disaster response partners from the Acadiana VOAD (Acadiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster).

We are asking the community to assist Catholic Charities of Acadiana in our disaster response by either making a monetary donation or shopping on our disaster Amazon shopping list; Your timely contributions will be used to provide essential relief immediately following disaster, as well as assisting in the long term rebuilding of our community post-disaster.

Catholic Charities of Acadiana is looking for willing individuals and/or groups from church parishes, schools, and other Diocesan entities to pre-register in order to be quickly deployed once our disaster response begins. Catholic Charities of Acadiana is in need of individuals for the following jobs: 


• Data Collection / Call Center

• Tarp Teams

• Damage Assessment

• Muck Out / Clean Up

• Debris Removal & Chainsaw Crew

• Food Service Team Member

Additionally, Catholic Charities of Acadiana is working with state and local government to collect damage assessments; this will expedite federal declarations as well as map out homes in need of assistance to match with volunteer groups trained in disaster response.

Once the storm passes, individuals who have been affected should text DISASTER to 797979 to complete a simple form. These individuals will then be added to the list of those needing assistance from Catholic Charities of Acadiana and its disaster response partners. This is only to be used for those who have sustained damages. For all other needs, residents should call 232-HELP / Louisiana 211.
