Press Release: Catholic Charities of Acadiana Receives $5 Million Bezos Day 1 Families Fund Grant to End Family Homelessness

Catholic Charities of Acadiana, a faith-based social services organization based in Lafayette, Louisiana, announced today that it has been selected to receive a $5 million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund. Launched in 2018 by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, the Day 1 Families Fund issues annual leadership awards to organizations and civic groups doing compassionate, needle-moving work to provide shelter and hunger support to address the immediate needs of young families.

From the CEO: Hurricane Laura

I’ve had the opportunity to travel to Lake Charles several times this week to visit our sister agency, Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana (CCSWLA), and provide support during this time of immediate response to the impacts of Hurricane Laura.

What I personally saw was truly devastating. It seems as though no home, no building, nothing had been left untouched.
