Press Release: Catholic Charities of Acadiana Launches Give Drink to the Thirsty Bottled Water Drive

Catholic Charities of Acadiana is inviting the community to support its “Give Drink to the Thirsty” bottled water drive, taking place now through Friday, May 2. The initiative aims to proactively stock its homeless programs to be prepared to respond to increased need during the summer months, ensuring individuals and families experiencing homelessness and extreme heat have access to safe drinking water. Donations collected through this drive will directly support outreach and services provided through St. Joseph Diner, Catholic Charities of Acadiana’s sheltering programs, and the Stella Maris Hygiene Center.

Community members are encouraged to donate cases of bottled water at the Catholic Charities of Acadiana Regional Response warehouse, located at 403 Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Scott, Louisiana. On-site signage will direct donors to the appropriate drop-off location.

“These critical water donations put us in a position to say yes to our neighbors who stand to suffer in the heat, made worse by housing instability and an experience of homelessness,” said Ben Broussard, Chief of External Affairs at Catholic Charities of Acadiana. “In a very real way, this is an opportunity to live out the corporal works of mercy, giving drink to the thirsty and caring for those most vulnerable among us.”

About Catholic Charities of Acadiana

Catholic Charities of Acadiana has served as an organizer of charity in South Louisiana for more than 50 years. Since 1973, the organization has cared for the sacred gift of all human life, especially the most vulnerable, through programs that address homelessness, hunger, poverty, and situational crisis across Acadiana. Its work represents a response to the Gospel call to live out the corporal works of mercy: feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, offering hospitality to the homeless, caring for the sick, visiting the imprisoned, and burying the dead.
