For Neighbors Like the Landrys
For Mr. and Mrs. Landry*, life had always been simple and steady. Living on a fixed income, they managed to make ends meet each month—just enough to cover the basics. Their routines were predictable, their days filled with small joys and familiar comforts. But over the past few years, the rising costs of rent, food, and utilities began to stretch their budget to the breaking point. Every dollar had to be stretched a little further, every expense carefully weighed, and every decision calculated.
Then, unexpectedly, Mrs. Landry fell ill.
Her condition required a costly medication—one that quickly consumed what little flexibility they had. Suddenly, the couple faced an impossible choice: buy the medicine she needed to stay healthy, or keep food on the table. It was a dilemma no one should ever have to face, but it became their reality.
That’s when FoodNet Food Bank stepped in.
Through supplemental grocery assistance by way of a FoodNet Food Bank partner pantry, the Landrys were able to receive bags of nutritious food each month—staples like rice, canned vegetables, beans, and proteins that helped sustain them during that critical period. These groceries did more than fill their pantry; they filled the space between worry and relief, anxiety and security. Each delivery brought a small measure of peace, a sense that they were not alone in navigating this hardship.
Because of that support, Mr. Landry could focus on caring for his wife without the crushing fear of going hungry. The extra help gave them stability in a time of uncertainty, allowing them to maintain dignity and hope while facing one of the hardest chapters of their lives.
