Family’s Engagement with Catholic Charities of Acadiana’s Lenten Toolkit Leads to Full Rejoicing at Easter

One family shares how CCA’s Lenten Calendar helped them enter deeply into prayer, fasting, and almsgiving with a tangible impact on helping the community, leading them to full rejoicing at Easter.

Catholic Charities of Acadiana’s Lenten Calendar and corresponding Lenten Toolkit focuses prayer, fasting, and almsgiving toward meeting the need of our local neighbors who are experiencing hunger. Through pairing Lenten observances with CCA’s FoodNet Food Bank and St. Joseph Diner, Lenten devotions serve as real accompaniment to those suffering in Acadiana.

This is what one Lana M. Fontenot, MBA, CFRE, Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement & External Relations and Executive Director of the SLCC Foundation, had to say

“We have always tried to instill a spirit of philanthropy and helping others in our daughters. From a young age, both daughters developed a passion for helping the homeless. When I received an email from Catholic Charities of Acadiana about the Lenten Toolkit, I knew it was the perfect way to express our love for God and others during the season of Lent. My daughters, Brianna (12) and London (8), looked forward to adding the assigned food each day to our collection basket and praying the Daily Prayer. In fact, they knew the prayer by heart after the second week. As opposed to having our children “give up something” for Lent, it was a beautiful way to tangibly express God’s commandment of loving our neighbors.”

Be on the lookout for Catholic Charities of Acadiana’s Lenten Toolkit in 2024 so that your family or small group can experience Lent in a deeply meaningful and fruitful way!
