If you volunteered at St. Joseph Diner in the past several months, you likely met Max Schaefer – tall, fair-skinned, ruddy-cheeked, affable, tremendously helpful - his excellently commanded English sporting a slight accent. Ten shifts each week quickly multiplied into nearly 300 hundred hours of service, and not surprisingly, Max became a beloved companion of St. Joseph Diner clients and staff alike.

Catholic Charities of Acadiana is grateful every year for the participation of Catholic schools. This year, Our Lady of Fatima’s 3rd-grade classes collected non-perishable food donations for FoodNet Food Bank. Mrs. Lisa Melacon, Director of Religious Education, went a step further and invited Catholic Charities of Acadiana into the classroom to teach about “feeding the hungry”.
