More Than a Food Drive: How L. Leo Judice Students Learned the Power of Giving
When schools, churches, and businesses host food drives for FoodNet Food Bank, everyone wins. The collective impact of an entire school, church family, or business driving for the in-kind food items that we need creates a substantial impact on our ability to provide for families and individuals who experience food insecurity and need help. We were thrilled when L. Leo Judice reached out and offered to do a school wide food drive through our 1/1/1 campaign (one church, one school, and one business driving each month).
Here’s what our friend Paula Guidry, a passionate teacher at L. Leo Judice, had to say about the drive:
In January, L. Leo Judice held a food drive to benefit FoodNet Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities of Acadiana. We are one of the smallest schools in the Lafayette Parish School System, but we are blessed to have families with big hearts. Over 900 canned goods were collected for the food drive. The students reflected on the drive and realized two important things. One is that even little kids can make a big difference in the lives of others. The second is that together we can do so much more than we can do alone. A little healthy competition is also great too. Each class in the grade levels competed with each other to see which class could collect the most cans. This competition and the desire to help others led to one of our most successful food drives. Thanks to Catholic Charities of Acadiana for giving us the opportunity to give back to the community.
Thank you to L. Leo Judice and to each school, church, and business that has stepped up to host a food drive for FoodNet Food Bank! Want to help by driving for other critical items, reach out to Julie Buller at julieb@catholiccharitiesacadiana.org or (337) 235-4972 ext. 1210
