Goodwill Serves Alongside Catholic Charities of Acadiana

By Tiffany Carrier

Goodwill Industries of Acadiana employee and first-time Catholic Charities of Acadiana volunteer, Megan Briscoe, was originally inspired to spend her time serving at St. Joseph Diner because she loves helping others. She has always seen herself as a “giver” who is blessed to be able to do good for others. Volunteering her time at St. Joseph Diner provided Megan with a new appreciation for the little things in life and a realization that her life circumstances could have easily mirrored those who rely on the St. Joseph Diner’s services. “Although we were not homeless, coming from a household with a single mother, we could have been walking in the same shoes as the individuals I had the honor to serve at the diner,” said Megan.

Megan works in the Mission Services department of Goodwill Industries of Acadiana, an organization with an ongoing partnership with Catholic Charities of Acadiana. Goodwill Industries of Acadiana offers programs to a variety of people in need including those with employment barriers, those in crisis situations, and those in need of a high school diploma.

As a result of Megan’s influence, Goodwill Industries of Acadiana committed as an organization to volunteering their time at St. Joseph once per quarter – a different department taking a shift on each occasion.

The primary reason Goodwill Industries of Acadiana employees have chosen to dedicate their time to St. Joseph Diner is that both Goodwill Industries of Acadiana and Catholic Charities of Acadiana share a common goal. “Every day that our office is open, we are providing services to individuals and families, and these services line up with the mission of Catholic Charities of Acadiana because both organizations have a divine mission to serve those in need,” said Megan.
