FoodNet Food Bank serves 800 families and individuals per week who experience food insecurity. This comes at a significant cost to FoodNet Food Bank; Without adequate and appropriate canned good donations, Catholic Charities of Acadiana spends $7,000-$8,000 each week filling the supplemental food bags we distribute.

You can provide meaningful help every time you go to participating grocery stores by grabbing one extra can and putting it in the FoodNet Food Bank collection basket, located in the front of the grocery store.

One can of non-perishable food donated each shopping trip can make a huge collective impact!

Catholic Charities Launches One Extra Can Campaign to Alleviate Hunger in Acadiana
Acadiana, LA - Catholic Charities of Acadiana is excited to announce the launch of the One Extra Can Campaign in partnership with local grocery stores and the community, aiming to tackle the critical issue of empty collection bins at FoodNet Food Bank. The campaign invites individuals across the region to make a simple yet impactful commitment: to purchase one extra can of non-perishable food during each shopping trip and place it in the designated collection baskets at participating grocery stores.
FoodNet Food Bank is currently facing a significant challenge in providing for the growing number of hungry families in our community. With collection bins remaining empty, the food bank has been forced to spend $7,000 per week to purchase essential food items. The One Extra Can Campaign seeks to address this issue by encouraging individuals to make buying an extra can of food a habit, ensuring an increased availability of nutritious provisions for those in need.
This campaign emphasizes the collective impact of small actions. While donating just one extra can of food may seem inconsequential, when multiplied by the number of caring individuals in our community, it can significantly increase FoodNet Food Bank's capacity to serve hungry families. Every can donated will help alleviate hunger, support struggling households, and provide an opportunity for individuals and families to thrive.
Catholic Charities of Acadiana invites the community to embrace the One Extra Can Campaign by supporting participating grocery stores and their collection baskets. By collectively making one additional purchase each shopping trip, we can empower FoodNet Food Bank to broaden their reach, touching the lives of more families in our region.
"The One Extra Can Campaign is an incredible opportunity for every member of our community to contribute to the fight against hunger," said John Smith, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Acadiana. "By simply buying one extra can, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable families and children in Acadiana. The power of this collective effort is immeasurable."
