German Exchange Student Volunteers For 290 Hours at St. Joseph Diner

If you volunteered at St. Joseph Diner in the past several months, you likely met Max Schaefer – tall, fair-skinned, ruddy-cheeked, affable, tremendously helpful - his excellently commanded English sporting a slight accent. Ten shifts each week quickly multiplied into nearly 300 hundred hours of service, and not surprisingly, Max became a beloved companion of St. Joseph Diner clients and staff alike.

Our Lady of Fatima Third Graders Learn about “Feeding the Hungry” alongside Catholic Charities of Acadiana 

Catholic Charities of Acadiana is grateful every year for the participation of Catholic schools. This year, Our Lady of Fatima’s 3rd-grade classes collected non-perishable food donations for FoodNet Food Bank. Mrs. Lisa Melacon, Director of Religious Education, went a step further and invited Catholic Charities of Acadiana into the classroom to teach about “feeding the hungry”.

Small Things with Great Love: Childrens’ Lemonade Stand Raises over $1000 in Support of St. Joseph Diner

A mother contacted Catholic Charities of Acadiana several weeks ago to tell me that while she was away, her children (all under 10) decided to set up a lemonade stand in front of their family home. She went on to explain that her children decided that instead of selling lemonade for the profit of their family, they wanted to sell lemonade to support Catholic Charities of Acadiana’s St. Joseph Diner!

Press Release: Catholic Charities of Acadiana receives donation and permanent installation of world-renowned “Homeless Jesus” sculpture to commemorate 50th anniversary

In remembrance of their 50th anniversary, a longstanding donor presented Catholic Charities of Acadiana with a sculpture entitled “Homeless Jesus” by globally recognized Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz. The sculpture was installed this week on the grounds of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist along St. John Street.
